One of the rarest coffees on the planet
100% Kona Bourbon Pointu Naturals
(Micro-lot)
Delicately sweet, deeply fruit-toned. Sweet structure with high-toned acidity; very full, viscous mouthfeel.

This unique coffee is so different from any other variety. We personally germinate each tree we grow from seed, then transfer to individual cells where they will continue to be nurtured for one year prior to being planted in our field. Unlike many coffee varieties, these trees don’t grow aggressively large but are rather dwarf-like with tight, small branches and tiny leaves that protect the hidden reward found deep inside. Each tree is slowly and carefully harvested, approximately 10 times each season, selecting only the brightest, juicy-red cherries. We dry the coffee in the whole fruit, and put particular emphasis on careful hulling, or removal of the dried fruit residue, so as not to damage the bean. Each bean is ultimately hand-sorted prior to being roasted.
This coffee tied for the third-highest rating in a cupping of coffees from roasters in North American beach and coastal communities for Coffee Review’s April 2021 report.
Bourbon Pointu, botanical name var. Laurina, is a natural mutation of the famous Bourbon variety, first selected on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean. The Bourbon Pointu is famous for its natural low levels of caffeine, bean shape (small and tending to be pointed at the ends, hence “pointu”), and pungently fruit-toned, Bourbon-like cup. This version was grown in Kona and processed by the natural method (beans are dried in the whole fruit).
Juicy, bright, tropical. Sweet-tart structure with juicy, lively acidity; plush, syrupy mouthfeel.
In March 2021 this coffee ranked #1 in the Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE) Hawaii Private Collection.
